Alice lay back on the bed in her room, looking at the raindrops that were sliding down the window. They didn't really need a bed; neither of them slept, but sometimes she liked to pretend that they could. That they were human. Of course the fact that she couldn't sleep didn't bother her as much as it did the others; Rosalie, Esme, and Edward, but sometimes she did wonder what life would be like if she did have the ability to dream.
Curling up into a small ball, she tried to remember her days as a human. Darkness. It was dark, that's all she could remember, although sometimes she got flashes of a conversation here and there. It was so frustrating! She had years to hone down her memories of the place, years to figure out what had occurred in that place. Wasn't it supposed to be easier for vampires to figure this sort of thing out? She guessed not...

Jasper opened the door to his and Alice's room quietly, he knew she was pretending to sleep again and the more he played along, the better she felt- usually. He never admitted it to anyone- but once to Alice- that he wished so much to sleep, even if it was just once more. He wanted so badly to sleep with her at his side- even just once. He wanted to know the comfort, to know that she was safe, warm, happy and resting in his arms. In the years after his conversion he never once craved sleep, not for over half a century, until he had found her.
Jasper knew that she knew she had once been human and apreciated the reasoning behind her conversion, and that she enjoyed being a Vampire and a Cullen, but she wanted so much to feel human, to at least have some recollection of her human past. He didn't care how many times Edward said 'Human memories fade', he was going to do what ever he could for Alice- what ever she wanted, needed. And she wanted to remember being human. So he would do what ever he possibly could to help her remember. And she wanted to at least feel human. So he would help her feel as human as he could. And she enjoyed and craved human company. So he would do his best to control himself.
Jasper moved silently into the room and found Alice curled up on their bed with her eyes tightly shut. She would have looked calm, peaceful almost, if there hadn't been a crease in her forehead. . . she was thinking. Her frustration pumeled him wave after wave. He moved silently to the bed and gently lowered himself down to curl up around her. Jasper sent to her a wave of calm and peace, and whipsered to her,
'I am here, my love.'

Knowing that someone - a Vampire - had entered the room, Alice waited until she recognized the presence as Jasper and calmed down, unaware that she'd even tensed until she'd done so. Jasper - and she supposed Edward, if he bothered to look - was the only one who knew about these excersises, though she had a feeling they all suspected, especially Rosalie, who was attuned to this subject in particular. Once, when she'd first arrived with the Cullens, she'd confided in Esme about it, but that was so long ago and it was such a brief conversation that she wasn't sure if Esme even remembered or thought her to continue them.
"I am here, my love." A very male voice whispered in her ear. Despite his appearance, Jasper was very gentle with her and at times like these, she appreciated it.
"Hey," She said, finally opening her eyes and staring into his. She didn't even bother trying to deny it when she said, "It was worth a try." Attempting a smile, even though she knew he saw right through it, Alice sat up and briefly kissed him on the cheek.

Alice opened her eyes. Jasper looked deep into them, feeling every emotion radiating out of them. Wave after wave of pain hitting him. 'Hey,' she said, and a fresh wave of pain washed over Jasper. 'It was worth a try.' He flinched at the intensity of the next wave. He felt her sit up and kiss him on the cheek. Jasper took a deep breath, trying to control his own emotions. He hated seeing, feeling, her this way, so unhappy; and he wasn't able to help. Jasper sat up, wraped his arm around Alice's shoulder, and returned her kiss. He tried again to calm her with emotion, even with fabricated feelings of drowsiness and exhaustion, to help her feign sleep. Another malignant wave hit him. He burried his face into her shoulder, desperate that his own pain and feelings of incompitence didn't reflect back to her. 'I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. You know I'll do anything for you, anything at all, what ever you want. But. . . . The one thing you want, and I can't give it to you. I'm so so sorry.'

Stiffening slightly once she'd realized that he'd tried to fake her emotions, Alice leaned slightly away from his touch as he wrapped his arm around her. She'd already loosened however, even before his apology was done. "It's not like it's your fault," She muttered bitterly, but quickly brushed the emotion aside. Bitterness and misery were both useless feelings, and she really didn't miss humanity as much as Rosalie had. You can't miss what you never had, had always been her motto on the subject, so why should that suddenly change?
Leaning against Jasper, she rested her head in the crook of his arm and muttered, "It's all so very confusing, Jass." Her voice was soft - Bella would not have been able to here it, had she been in the vicinity - but it was not weak, particularly not weak with depression. Those moments where she'd try to sleep were brief, and the emotions quickly suppressed.
Alice straightened, quickly pulling away from Jasper and getting off the bed. Shaking out her short, dark hair, she skipped off into their expansive closet and pulled out a leather jacket. "Look what I bought yesterday," She grinned, trying to contain her excitment at the new garment, "You know what'd go really well with this?" She raised her eyebrows, waiting for him to guess the answer, hardly wanting to though in her happiness.

And there she was again, like a hyperactive puppy. Enough energy pouring off her to power a small country if someone could harness it. One answer came imeadiatly to his mind. But, not wanting to sound too pervy just yet (( / its an inside joke that i doubt anyone here would understand with out explaining anyway)), he stifled a laugh and finally answered, "Uh. . . Pants?"

Sighing, as though in extreme exasperation, Alice shook her head, then paused; "Well... yes, if you want to get technical. I was thinking more along the lines of -" her face lit up in a mischevious grin, "-a motorcycle. One with enough horsepower to overtake even Edward," She wiggled her eyebrows expressively, "What do you say ?" Images of him laughing outright, shaking his head, abruptly agreeing with her and more bombarded her mind; she understood that he wasn't quite sure what to do first.
